Etu Moana Unveils Lagoon-Inspired Renovations and New Local Art Collaboration for 2026

The 2026 season begins with a refined new chapter at Etu Moana Boutique Beach Villas, unveiling architectural innovation, a newly renovated lagoon-inspired pool, and a commissioned Cook Islands art collaboration — all thoughtfully woven into the resort’s signature adults-only boutique experience.

A First for the Cook Islands: Palmex® Rioha Coconut Palm-Inspired Roofing

Etu Moana introduces Palmex International’s Palmex® Rioha coconut palm-inspired roofing — the first installation of its kind in the Cook Islands.

Designed to reflect the traditional silhouette of Nikau palm thatching historically used throughout Cook Islands, Palmex® Rioha preserves the authentic island aesthetic while offering enhanced durability and long-term sustainability. The natural-toned, coconut palm-inspired profile blends seamlessly into the surrounding tropical landscape.

This architectural enhancement strengthens the resort’s ongoing commitment to environmentally conscious development without compromising visual authenticity.

Lagoon Blues: A Newly Renovated Pool Experience

Complementing the new roofing is the complete renovation of the resort’s swimming pool. Now fully tiled in lagoon-inspired blues, the redesigned pool mirrors the shifting hues of Aitutaki’s iconic waters.

Updated deck areas with relaxed seating, umbrellas, and refreshed communal spaces flow effortlessly into the pool bar — creating an inviting social setting while maintaining the intimacy of a small-scale retreat. All villas have been recently refreshed, while flourishing tropical landscaping further elevate the guest experience.

2026 Art Collaboration

The adults-only, eight-villa retreat — long favoured by international travellers seeking privacy along one of the world’s most luminous lagoons — has commissioned a series of abstract works that reinterpret Aitutaki through movement rather than literal imagery.

The collaboration with Cook Island-based artists @us.to.tatou.taokotai marked a creative evolution for both parties. Known for more traditional Pacific themes, the artists were invited to step into unfamiliar territory. The brief was simple yet ambitious: capture the feeling of Aitutaki- not what it looks like, but how it moves. The result is a striking series of impressionist works inspired by shifting blues, giant trevally beneath the surface, turtle shell geometry, and the fluid rhythm of bubbles rising through the lagoon. Each of Etu Moana’s eight villas now features its own original artwork, ensuring no two guest stays are visually the same.

The artistic narrative extends into reception, where a large-scale composition unites land and sea — native birdlife, marine life, Mount Maungapu, and the cultural heartbeat of the Cook Islands woven into one immersive piece.

The art feels less like décor and more like atmosphere — an immersive extension of the island itself.
