Punanga Nui Market in Rarotonga

The Punanga Nui Market in Avarua, Rarotonga’s main town, offers free entertainment, fresh food stalls, organic coffee, and authentic souvenirs like pearls, artwork, crafts and hats made of coconut frond. While the market is open until midday, early Saturday morning is the best time to go for locally grown fruits and vegetables as well as homemade treats like poke. Also, make sure to head over to the main stage from about 10am to enjoy live music and dancing. Getting to the market is easy! While some hotels and resorts offer a shuttle to the markets, you can also catch the public bus or organise a transfer. If you're driving, simply find a spot in the designated market parking area.

Muri Night Market in Rarotonga

The Muri Night Market in the Ngatangiia Village are a great way to curate your own dinner from the various food trucks, stalls and stands all while mixing and mingling with visitors and locals alike. Open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday evenings from 5pm (until sold out), the night markets offer a variety of food from local BBQ meals, seafood, fresh drinking coconuts, chicken curries, wok-fried noodles, pizza, desserts and more.

Orongo Park Night Market in Aitutaki

Aitutaki’s Orongo Park Night Market pops up every second Thursday of the month from 5 to 7pm, with local stalls serving up island food, cold drinks, fresh coconuts, sweet treats, clothing, and live Cook Islands stringband tunes. Come hang out, grab a bite, and enjoy the community atmosphere with the locals.

Ada's Market in Atiu

For those lucky enough to visit the eco-adventure that is our island of Atiu, be sure to visit Ada's Market at the Tengatangi Hardcourt. Held every other Thursday from 5pm, this market is the perfect spot to grab local food and drinks to take back to your accommodation and enjoy. Since most accommodation on the island is self-contained, this is a great opportunity to stock up on fresh produce, bottles of freshly squeezed coconut cream, baked bread, and more!

A FEW HELPFUL TIPS

For the best selection of fresh food, arrive early. Bring New Zealand dollars or Cook Islands coins in small denominations, as most stalls are cash only and change may be limited. Remember to take a reusable bag for your purchases, and be sure to chat with the friendly vendors. They're happy to share stories about their produce and recommend local specialties.

Le marché de Punanga Nui à Avarua, la ville principale de Rarotonga, propose des animations gratuites, des stands de produits frais, du café bio et des souvenirs authentiques comme des perles, des œuvres d'art, de l'artisanat et des chapeaux en fronde de noix de coco. Alors que le marché est ouvert jusqu'à midi, tôt le samedi matin est le meilleur moment pour acheter des fruits et légumes cultivés localement ainsi que des friandises maison comme poussée. Assurez-vous également de vous diriger vers la scène principale vers 10 heures du matin pour profiter de la musique live et de la danse.

Les marchés nocturnes de Muri dans le Muri Beach Village sont un excellent moyen de préparer votre propre dîner parmi les différents food trucks, stands et stands tout en se mêlant aux touristes et aux habitants. Ouverts les mardis, mercredis, jeudis et dimanches soirs à partir de 17h00, les marchés nocturnes proposent une variété de plats tels que des plats de barbecue locaux, des fruits de mer, des noix de coco fraîches, des currys de poulet, des nouilles sautées au wok, des pizzas, des desserts et bien plus encore.
